There are many airbrushes on the market, and deciding which is best for you is difficult. Try it before you buy it, as you want the airbrush to feel comfortable when holding it. And remember there are two main parts to your airbrush to make it work
1 the compressor
2 the airbrush
I recommend you buy a compressor that runs no more than 30 PSI for cake decorating or crafts. This means the amount of airflow that is running through your airbrush. Some compressors have little switches to turn the airflow up or down, which is a bonus.
As for the airbrush, I recommend that you go for good quality and make sure that spare parts are also available. A good-quality airbrush will last for years. You can also buy different airbrushes to fit your compressor.

I recommend a user-friendly compressor and airbrush for a beginner, the SprayCraft SP30KC. This is the one I started with many years ago; it’s simple to use. The compressor runs at 15 psi. Its single action means you pull back the trigger, and the airflow will come out automatically. This means the compressor is running all the time, but for me, this is the easiest one to practice as you only have to think of pulling the trigger back to release the colour.

A more advanced choice is the Spamax Arisum kit; this has a bigger compressor, but it is straightforward to interchange all the available airbrushes.
The compressor only runs when you pull the trigger of the airbrush

The kit also comes with a moisture trap, which is essential for collecting moisture as it travels up the lead to the airbrush; without this, you can end up with a splat of water, which could spoil your creation.

Duel action means you need to push the trigger down and then back, but once you get the hang of this, it’s a great feature.

The Arisum kit is more expensive, but it’s worth every penny, as it has many lovely features. But think about your budget, too; I would love to start everyone on the Arisum kit first, but I understand the budget sometimes does not stretch to a hobby you may not enjoy.
